One of our most asked questions from expectant mothers is, “what is the difference between three and four wheeled pushchairs?”
There are now so many different makes and models to choose from, it can be quite an intimidating task, finding the perfect stroller for you and your family. What we hope to do in the following article, is give some insight into the benefits of the three wheeled “joggers” and 4 wheeled pushchairs.
Which model is better?
Short answer to this question, is neither is indefinitely better, both 3 and four-wheel strollers have benefits and drawbacks, so dependent on your lifestyle will depend on which model type is suitable or “better”
Pros of a jogger/three-wheel pushchair model
Normally, the three-wheel models are sold to parents who are looking for a lighter model that is easily manoeuvrable, and with that Jogging aspect in mind active gym goers love the fact they can stay fit and still keep their little ones safe.
Lots of three-wheel strollers have a larger more durable front wheel with built in suspension to help when on uneven terrain and running on paths or around parks, this is great for your children as the pram will not be knocking them from side to side.
Another selling point, that parents seem to love is, usually, the chassis is lighter than 4 wheel strollers for the simple fact, it only has to support three wheels. On average they are 10% lighter, which doesn’t sound like a lot, but some chassis are 12kg so will soon add up.

Pros of a Four-wheel stroller
These models are tried and tested, and have been sold for many generations, so they can’t be that bad! They are generally easier to fold and erect and are more compact in folding meaning you don’t need a 4×4 to get your pushchair into your car boot.
The majority of 4-wheel strollers have the “straight push” feature, meaning you lock the front wheels to just go straight, this is fantastic for supermarkets or whilst out shopping in general.
